A CCTV video balun is a device that allows a security camera’s video signal to be transmitted over standard twisted-pair cabling (like Cat5 or Cat6 ethernet cable) instead of using traditional coaxial cable, essentially converting the video signal from a 75-ohm impedance to a 100-ohm impedance suitable for the Cat5 cable, enabling cost-effective wiring for CCTV systems; it is often referred to as a “UTP balun” or “CAT5 balun” due to its function with unshielded twisted pair cable.
