A “traditional touch screen,” typically refers to a resistive touchscreen which works by detecting pressure applied to a layered screen, where touching the top layer causes it to physically contact a bottom layer, registering the touch point through a change in electrical resistance; this technology is considered older compared to newer capacitive touch screens which sense changes in an electric field without requiring physical pressure.
